«L’incroyable odyssée d’Adrien, capitaine français, à la recherche de Doña Florà travers l’Espagne, insurgée contre les envahisseurs, les soldats de Napoléon.» November 1808. Spain is rising against the French invasion. Rebels have chased out of Madrid the king Napoleon had nominated : his own brother Joseph. Among the troops gathered for the reconquest, a captain of Dragoons, Adrien, falls deeply in love with Doña Flor, the daughter of one of the French King’s ministers. Adrien hears about the kidnapping of Flor by a group of freedom fighters and is granted permission to go looking for her. Actually the young woman has fled to an old friend of hers, Don Guillermo, also known as the Abogado (the lawyer) who has become the chief of a secret army. At the heart of Serrania de Cuenca, of its strange and fascinating landscapes, there lies an incredible underground fortress, where the wedding of Doña Flor and of the Abogado takes place. But Adrien still rides around, looking for Flor. This dangerous journey leads him to witness the ugly catastrophies of a most horrifying war. Seriously wounded, Adrien is eventually captured by his rival at the moment when the latter decided to take back the city of Molina, on Candlemas day. The French brigade has to evacuate Molina. A dramatic turn of events then comes to change Doña Flor’s destiny as well as those of the two men loving her.
