Humour, suspense et rebondissements.
Dans le cadre d’un château du Périgord :À mesure que le temps passe, l’ombre d’un drame très ancien surgit de la mémoire des lieux et de ses habitants. In the wake of a severe wound, the narrator is convalescing far from home and makes up his mind to hold a diary. The account of his first days relates his arrival in a huge castle which is to become his home for his convalescence. Humourously, he narrates his arrival in Périgord, bathed in its autumn light ; but it is no postcard sight, and if he renders the beauties of the landscapes, he does fail to mention the difficulty of country life. The narrator becomes acquainted with the place and its inhabitants, but as time elapses, tongues come loose and the shadow of a very old tragedy seems to hover above the castle. The frame of the book is designed to the benefit of suspense and the twists and turns of the story but its attraction mostly rests in the form of the secret diary allowing the reader to enter the narrator’s thoughts, his questions, his opinions and his own demons… For if the plot assumes the form of a mere detective novel, it would be oversimplified to reduce it to this genre. Beyond its plot, the novel deals with many themes ranging from current everyday life to stranger topics, wherein lies its interest.
