Les tribulations débridées d’un jeune idéaliste, en quête d’amour et d’honneur, en pleine guerre entre la Savoie et le Dauphiné au XIIIe siècle.
1291: war is raging between the expansionist Dauphine and Savoy which, at the time, stretched as for as Vienne. In the midst of that upheaval, a young idealist called Géraud, the son of the Bocsozel’s Vicar, would restore this honour he thought he lost in a moment of weakness. His feelings fluctuate between Pierrette, a naïve and lovely-looking country-girl and Bertille, a lord of Bressieux’s daughter, an engaging but frivolous girl. Fearsome enemies are about to rise up on his way such as Ismidon, Bertille’s brother, a dissolute young man deprived of scruples and the sinister Aymon de Bocsozel, Lord of Maubec. Horse rides on an enemy area, murderous sieges, bloody fights, sordid emprisonments, desperate flights appear one after the other at a wild pace in this novel where the sense of honour and absolute love are incessantly faced with the vilest behaviors.
