From the woods of Périgord to North Africa, exposed to man to man fight, Louis, a young man from Périgord, born at the close of the 19th century, has been living in the woods since his birth, together with his father, a barrel hoops maker.
He is almost 20 in 1914 when the Great War breaks outs. Far from the din of weapons, living in a quiet land, he does not want to hear about mobilization.
It will be the beginning of a long series of troubles which will carry him far away from all he cares about for many years.
