Fanchon’s going to be reasonable and to become a woman of the world in an expanding Bordeaux in the midst of architectural renewal. She no longer is Fanchon the unsociable, nor the unfaithful woman, nor the scheming one we used to know. She is to become a loving and calm woman. The home welcoming her entertains great expectations with her arrival and assigns a decisive place to her in the family circle. Unfortunately so as not to deceive those close to her, she is compelled to lie and yo be dragged into an unhealthy situation from which she fortunately manages to escape successfully. In the meantime, as she disentangles herself from this first obstacle, some disturbing and disconcerting encounters will disturb her newly found tranquillity and she is very closely involved (against her will) into the slave trade and the triangular business which brought wealth to many French ports at the time. Threats are now hovering over her future but she finds the support of faithful and honest friends who help her to escape this new trap, especially her young protégé Florian. Attacked in what is dearest to her, she now looks for appeasement while taking care of her sickly husband now totally dependant on her good care. Unfortunately, the French Revolution causes jealousy, backbiting and defamation to catch up with her, and she finds herself once again in total dismay.
