1963. The author is twenty eight and finds himself in Dawson City, the old capital town of the Klondike gold rush which Jack London celebrated in his time. During his stay, among the last inhabitants of a ghostly town, he is to meet an old lady, Ms Weston, who dicloses a secret from her past to him. In her youth, as a manor housekeeper in England, she was led to act as a detective to solve a disconcerting mystery. Accursed towers, ghosts, secret messages by moonlight, composed the background of a discreet old-fashioned romance at the antipodes of today's disenchanted realism. Such is the frame of the story.
Why does she offer a little green notebook relating these events and which has been lying in a drawer ever since to this stranger coming from so far away ? Will the young French reporter,  who is listening to her, hear her request ?
Yet, faithful to his promise, the man, today confronting his own nostalgia, makes Ms Weston’s wish come true and narrates her story.
